Final Power Rankings

What a year! Looking back I never would've guessed the Cowboys would make it to the playoffs, T.O. would stay relatively quiet, the Bengals would stop being the Bungles, the Jets would even sniff the AFC Championship game, the Steelers wouldn't make it to the playoffs and finish third in the division, Favre would come so close to another Super Bowl, Miles Austin would have a big year, the Broncos would start off 8-0, two teams would go 13-0, New England wouldn't go deep into the playoffs, Cutler would be horrible, Chris Johnson would break the record for total yards in a season and eclipse 2,000 rushing, Alex Smith would be resurgent, and the Rams, Raiders, and Lions wouldn't have winning seasons! Oh, wait... never mind on the last one. So off to the rankings. I only described the playoff teams only, including the Steelers because they were ahead of the Patriots...

1) Saints- Any surprises here? They thoroughly beat down the Colts on all levels and played a flawless Super Bowl. Thank Sean Payton for his guts, New Orleans, he made the hardest call of the game that paid off dividends. Now the question becomes if they can repeat. But does it really matter to them right now? Why don't you go down Bourbon Street and see.

2) Colts- It had become common sense through the minds of football commentators, players, fans, coaches, and any other person with ties to the NFL; when you have Peyton, anything is possible. The little exception to that rule is when he is the one making it impossible. Now, we can't put it all on his shoulders. Caldwell's decision for Matt Stover to kick a 51-yard field goal when he clearly doesn't have the range he did earlier in his career and not go for it on fourth changed the outcome of that game. But still, it doesn't help when your QB throws an interception that gives the other team points that seal a win. Next year, is there any doubt that they will be favorites in the AFC? But at some point you have to wonder, are they just built for regular season success?

3) Vikings- There is no doubt this will be the most closely watched team in the offseason. They may have saved themselves from moving to LA with the addition of this one guy and the increased revenue he brought and still, Zygi Wilf wants a new stadium. It should be interesting to see how that plays out. But one things for sure, the decision of a certain someone's retirement could make or break this team in 2010-2011. At least you'd still have Adrian Peterson in the backfield... if he could actually hold onto a ball. The secondary is what needs improvement on the team. But even that isn't a true weak link of the Vikings. They have the talent, but they need the man that made it all click back.

4) Cowboys- They did it. They overcame December. Now they have to get together January. Wade Phillips bought himself some more time. But I got news for you, Wade, Jerry Jones will only be nice for so long. If the Boys don't get more then 1 playoff win in the next two years, something tells me Wade is gone. Jerry has a franchise QB going to waste in Romo. Oh wait! That's right! Romo may very well be the problem. He didn't choke in December. Okay, what about January? He has weapons, especially with the emergence of Austin. The first thing that needs to be addressed this offseason is that offensive line, then the defense.

5) Jets- When you have a defensive mastermind running a defense full of stars, and a trio of running backs each with different styles behind one of the best offensive lines in the league, you have a playoff team. Mark Sanchez has two wins under his helmet and he was dangerous at times this year. Now imagine next year. There will be talk of a sophomore slump, but I don't buy it. He has weapons on offense and enough talent around him to prevent that. They will be a threat to the Patriots crown in the AFC East next year.

6) Chargers- It's kind of a sad thought. A San Diego without L.T. or Shawn Merriman. But chances are, they part ways with the team. Philip Rivers is still quarterbacking, and that's what matters the most though. Antonio Gates and Vincent Jackson coupled with Rivers is still an explosive bunch. Norv Turner faces a challenge though, finally getting to the big game. The talent is there, but the success doesn't transfer with it.

7) Packers- They earn a spot over the Eagles based on quarterback play. This team next year could be challenging for the NFC crown. First thing they need to do, get the defense healthy. Al Harris being back should sure up the secondary opposite Charles Woodson. A ball-hawking safety wouldn’t hurt either. Come April, they need to get that offensive line fixed up too. If they take the north, Mike McCarthy 2011 coach of the year, anyone?

8) Eagles- From the outside looking in, I see a lot of holes in the Eagles organization. They have questions at quarterback, running back, offensive line, and pretty much the only bright spot on the team is wide receiver where they are stacked. Andy Reid, Philadelphia believes in you, somewhat. But can you convince them to trust Donavan?

9) Bengals- They are starting to put together the winning formula. Run and play good defense. They have their pair of shutdown corners in Jonathon Joseph and Leon Hall, Ray Malaluga and Keith Rivers solidifying the LB corps, and Jonathan Fanene anchoring and putting pressure on the quarterback upfront.  Cedric Benson became a star in 2009 in front of an average offensive line without their No. 1 draft pick, Andre Smith. Now he gets him back., and people need to watch out. The only problem, Carson Palmer. Is he really as good as people think he can be? He didn’t have the great year to prove it.

10) Ravens- Jim Zorn was a great hire for Flacco. Now get a top-flight receiver, and you have a volatile offense. The best thing is, a good passing game will free up the running game. Watch out for Ray Rice. The secondary got better for the second half of the season and Ladarius Webb looked like he could be something special. But you always have to wonder, how long does Ray Lewis have?

11) Cardinals- Kurt Warner will be missed severely. The question becomes if Matt Leinart can step up and become a star. He has the weapons and a newly found running game to help him. With a defense to help him not play from behind, I say he does and the Cardinals hold off the Niners for another year.

12) Steelers- What happened to the defense? That secondary has some serious issues it needs to fix. Getting Troy Polamalu back will help a lot, but what about the offense? Rashard Mendenhall put up some good numbers and showed real promise in the running game, and Ben is still Ben. No problems there, except on the offensive line, still.

13)Patriots- They are the lowest ranked playoff team and are even below a non-playoff team. Why? Their defense. It’s a mess in New England. The real bright spot? Brady and Belichik . And even Brady wasn’t that great. The end of a dynasty? Next year will tell. But they have questions. Major, major questions. What about running back? Is Laurence Maroney really good enough to be a 20+ touch running back a game and average more then 3.5 YPC? Work on it, Belichick, or your teams run might be over.

14) Broncos

15) Titans

16) Texans

17) Dolphins

18) Giants

19) Falcons

20) 49ers

21) Panthers

22) Bears

23) Jaguars

24) Redskins

25) Chiefs

26) Seahawks

27) Browns

28) Bills

29) Raiders

30) Buccaneers

31) Lions

32) Rams

Did I say bad year for Cutler? No, I said HORRIBLE. I thought he wouldn't be good, I didn't think he would be horrible.Stop using ESPN predictions because it shows what a clown you are.I have never watched it a day in my life aside from MNF. You really are stupid.

the fact that you highlighted true statements that you couldnt argue with, and just made a general statement about how nobody likes cowboys because of idiots like me (despite it all being true) shows that you dont want to have a real converation. I know you can't argue with my assesment so you just me to go away, i was fair and realisitic about them and the eagles.

You couldn't believe Jay Cutler would have a bad year? PAY ATTENTION, hes never done anything but throw more pics than TDS even with monsters at reciever. The guy is the most overrated crybaby in football. Judge wrote a good article a year ago about how Cutlers value was so high but hasnt dont anything compared to somebody like Mr Romo he gets hated on by everybody. Look at the numbers he doesnt measure up. Your going to say the same thing Ed Werder says, Romo cant play late in the season, well if you look at every year the whole team has fell apart, hes had no defense late and his line fell apart. This year he had a stellar december but people still say "can the cowboys win more than one playoff game" its the same nonsense. If he wins a superbowl itl be Can he win two?, one is easy but only the real talents can win multiple.

Stop using ESPN predictions because it shows what a clown you are. If you werent your would argue with my SUBSTANCE not my presence here. You cant write back and cry all you want but it wont be substantive and to anyone who reads this stuff will see that your compensating your lack of knowledge with insults and cliches.

please argue with my substance

I think my analysis of the cowboys was pretty fair. For instance, although you cannot tell me one position they are weak at, i am reasonable enough to know they werent the 4th best team once the season was over.

I am a little defensive but it really made me mad that nobody acknowledged the talent they had, call me whatever you want but one of us was right about this team before the season started. Name calling doesnt help somebody who listened to ESPNs analysis of the team rather than seeing what was really there. I mean your doing the madden thing, after last year romo was probably(i dont play so i dont know) rated 78  this year he'l be a 88. QBs dont change that much, opinions do. Make up your own for once. The only delusional person is the one that thought this team was 3rd in the east.  The rosters havent realy changed since then...was it your opinion that the loss to phliadlephia was so crippling they could never win again?

Where do they need improvement though? where on defense? call me delusional but there is no hole, theres always room for improvement. At least I'm realisitc enough to know that they rank around 6.

As for Kolb he may have been "sensational" but who did he beat? I know it wasn't a playoff team bc that didnt happen all year. 3-4 games is great but we still don't know if hes going to be as good as Mcnabb. All in All I'd say they have more depth at QB than any other team, but you only need one guy, maybe two but the back up cant get paid much or be good enough to go somewhere else.

I agreed with the original assesment on the Eagles, they lots of questions and the QB question isn't can anyone do the job, its whos going to do it and are they going to get value for either one of the other two. Generally a good problem to have.

I personally think mcnabb has been overrated for a long time, the guy is 1-7 in championship games. People say he got them to those NFC championshpis by himself, no he had the best D in the leauge most of those years and couldnt get it done. T.O. almost carried them to a win a superbowl, and he almost had to physically carry mcnabb down field. talk about dead weight.

Id like to see kolb get a shot, especially since mcnabb would still have decent trade value.

The defense is a major concern?Did I ever say that? HAHA, I never even hinted at that. You couldn't believe the Cowboys would make the playoffs?Defensive of the Cowboys much? Geez, but no. They always choke in December. DUH. That's why. IT's the age old rule, Cowboys in December = Loses. Now, that's changed though. Where are you going to tell me there weak? at no position, which is why they have no idea who there taking, best available because there are no holes. Would i like an upgrade at LT, someone young? absolutley but Flozell is top ten LT still.

Next thing you know your going to tell me they don't have enough running backs.

Romo may be the problem? well throwing for a team record 4,400+ yards and only nine picks is real problematic. What a bum.

As much as your assesment was to negative, your ranking was to high. I think you might have been throwing darts in determining the NFC side of this.

WHAT THE HELL? YOU'RE A DELUSIONAL IDIOTIC COWBOYS FAN! YOU HAVE NO EFFIN IDEA WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT.Just shut up and go away. This is why nobody likes the cowboys. Because of MORONS like you.

ya right that line is below average.

You have three starting caliber QBs if were talking about NFC West. We dont know i kolb can start in this leauge, lots of qbs did a good jobin their first two starts. Either way, maybe they are all great, hahaha ya right, still remains questions, what are you going to do with all these guy. Also every position of defense is a question mark, you know it, asante samuel was embarassed so don't tell me CB. They only stopped the Giants. Still to question is whether Jim Johnsons absense is going to hold you back.

great Set of Tight ends in Brent celekYou are correct, that was my flaw. And especillay at QB right now there are 3 starting caliber QB's on the eagles roster and Mcnabb is a top QB so i truly dont see why there are questions at QBYou just said it right there. They have 3 starting QBs, which one goes, stays, is traded? Philly doesn't like Donavan, and they want him gone. They are questioning him and Reids decision to keep him the starting QB. So yes, there is questions.when healthy this is arguablly the best line in footballThat would be the Jets. Not even comparable.

Jim Zorn is a great QB coach but Snyder put him in a no win situation he wasn't qualified for two promotions ahead, Jason Campbell? hes a coach not a miracle worker. Snyder is the one who drafted him and has a team full of jokes.

I couldnt tell if you were being sarcastic about the Zorn hiring.

Ya you can't compare Rodgers to Mcnabb. Rodgers is top tier nowadays, Mcnabbs average on his good days.

As for your assesment of the Cowboys, what were you thinking. The oline does need some work. Were talking about a good unit in general though, keep in mind one starter was out half the year and the running game was 2nd in YPA. Its easy to say they're bad when the leagues best pass rush kills them at home in a stadium louder than any other. Lets not forget the LT who missed most of the game. People who don't watch the game think that Flozell is horrible because of his penalties, the guy shuts everyone down with the exception of dumerville. All year, I want someone new but hes no joke.

The defense is a major concern? hmmm well they may have started slow but they did let up like 250 pts, 2nd best in the NFL. No position was weak on defense this year, three very good corners, two of which are going into their third season. OLB features one of the best duos in Ware and Spencer, ILBs James and Brooking were great, safeties played pretty well, Hamlin is overpayed but did pretty good. Ball had to play half the season in relief but Sensabaugh had a good year as well. Wheres the work??? I mean you can never have to many corners but thats one of the better units in football.

You couldn't believe the Cowboys would make the playoffs? maybe you watch to much espn. Every unit is top ten in the leauge. At every position they are strong and deep. RB, WR, OL, FS, , all had some injuries with almost no drop off in play. Now in general they were healthy and I thank my lucky stars but anyone who thought this team was going to go 8-8 didn't evaluate what was their, only a bad ending to 2008. Im not saying they were a lock but with the talent here, 8-8 is unacceptable and just to let you know in a season where everything fell apart, they still went 9-7 in 08. ya what a bunch of bums. And if your one of the people who believes they have a talent problem because Roy WIlliams gets paid to much, doesn't understand the dynamic of an NFL team. Should he make that much? no, does it mean the whole team is doomed? nope.

Where are you going to tell me there weak? at no position, which is why they have no idea who there taking, best available because there are no holes. Would i like an upgrade at LT, someone young? absolutley but Flozell is top ten LT still.

Next thing you know your going to tell me they don't have enough running backs.

Analyisis on eagles??

How do the eagles have quaetiosn everywhere but wide reciver??And especillay at QB right now there are 3 starting caliber QB's on the eagles roster and Mcnabb is a top QB so i truly dont see why there are questions at QB..At Recivier you are right they are very deep and talented there they also have a great Set of Tight ends in Brent celek and Alex Smith along with Corneilius Ingram who didnt play..Along the Line overall it was pretty good through the mid part of the season while they were healthy but injuries crippled it in the end when healthy this is arguablly the best line in football. As for defense The DT's did a great job as did the corners although the saftey play was horrible..D-line wasnt bad but could use improvemnt...So overall your analysis is way off base the only pressing needs this team has is Saftey,D-End and linebacker and could use a late round prospect at RB...Now im not criticizing your Judgment but i would like to hear you explain this to me?

Right, anyone who brought up Jason Campbell is a great hire.He wasn't ready for head coaching. Look what he did before as a QB coach! He was great, no less he had no good quarterback to work with (until Hasselback).
