The last round only had 14 people voting, with nobody posting on that one since August. I guess cbs changes have chased off most of the people who participated in this thing. Anyway, here are the results of the last round. So I

#1 Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back 10 vs.#2 The Terminator 4

#1 Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope 11 vs.#2 2001: A Space Odyssey 3

#3 Terminator 2: Judgment Day 8 vs.#4 Planet of the Apes 6

#1 Alien 6 vs.#3 The Day the Earth Stood Still 8

Due to the lack of participation in this thing, I am going to forgo the Final Four round, and have this be free for all style round. You can only vote for one of the movies below. Will the Star Wars fans split the votes allowing one of the #3 seeds to win the whole thing?

#1 Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
Vs.
#1 Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope
Vs.
#3 Terminator 2: Judgment Day
Vs.
#3 The Day the Earth Stood Still

It's been alot of fun running these things, but without participation, it kind of loses it's steam. Maybe I will just use this space to spout off on the stupid things that are happening in the world. All I have to do for that is pay attention to CNN so I can see exciting news such as "I wanna be Jen Aniston, Kathy Griffin Says", or "Women's Pet Peeves about their guy" Reall hard hitting news. Or hey, what about the President who is so interested in getting his health care reform passed, he jets off to Europe to try to get the Olympics in Chicago.

Field of 64 - SciFi Movies - Finals

I'm sure I will think of a new idea for a blog game in the future, but I think I will just do some social commentary on the rediculous stuff that passes as real news these days. You know stuff like Jon and Kate getting divorced, etc... Stuff most people could care less about, but gets promoted as big news.

Hey Section,

Great job with the bracket as usual.  Kinda stinks that participation has dropped but I'm sure it will bounce back in the future.

As for the finals here:  I am going with T2.  Sidenote - I think the SW episodes will split the vote and T2 wins a close one.

Thanks again for doing these brackets.

I sincerely wish I had see this thread earlier.  You are right that the changes at CBS makes things harder to find.
I would choose Terminator 2: Judgment Day above all of these.  I could identify so intensely with Sarah Connor in her desperate struggle against terrifying killer smart materials bonded to machinery and her sacrificial war instinct to preserve her own son's life and stave off nuclear holocaust.  It is just so well done on an emotional level, and the special effects of the nuclear strike on LA are so good, I use them in a class I teach at a university when we are discussing protective materials technology.
It depends on which Day the Earth Stood Still movie you mean for that one.  The Michael Rennie version beautifully captured the terror of living in the nuclear, post WWII world, the threats from powerful, brilliant and possibly ruthless foreigners and the paranoia of McCarthy-dominated post war America. It would be my second choice.  If you mean the Keanu Reeves version, it was so bad all DVD's of it should be illegal to posses and melted down into bicycle parts.
By comparison, the Star Wars sagas are much more comic book and fantasy genre and eventually degenerated into thin comedy with Ewoks, Wookies and Jar-Jar Binks.  Of all the Star Wars movies, though, the first one (IV) was the best and runs third on this list for me.
The final one for me is The Empire Strikes Back because it fails to address the strength of the spirit's response in the face of overwhelming, pending doom and failure.  It is the anti-T2 on the list and has a much more Göttedämerung character to it that says evil will triumph and all we can hope for is to die as warriors.

From this group I have to give The Day the Earth Stood Still the nod. More dramatic and interesting than the others which are all good fun, but not particularly deep.
