I would like to chime in with a thought or two...

I really want to see that Mets attitude that gave us Ray Knight punching Eric Davis in the face, Keith Hernandez telling Jesse Orosco that "he would kill him" if he threw a fastball to Kevin Bass, or Bobby Valentine disguising himself with a mustache to stay in the dugout after an ejection.

I realize this is old history but this is the missing link for this team...I don't see that spark that they need to have those 9th inning comebacks and great walk off wins.

I am not sure what to make of this completely.  As for attitude, yes I would like the Mets to have a winning swagger, but it seems to me that swagger comes from winning, which means you got to have those key ingredients... defense up the middle, quality pitching and the ability to produce runs (extra base hits / HRs).  I am not so sure that a team that goes to that excess would be exactly what we need.

I definately didn't like that Bobby Valentine stunt when it happened.  In retrospect, it was pretty funny but at the time it just didn't sit too well with me. 

This team has some grit (to use Yogi's term) and it looks to me like we may have some of the role players we need on a quality team to succeed.  What we need now is the quality power pitchers and some with a little more pop.

I was disappointed to hear that Ike has a possibility now that he may be out for the season if his injury doesn't progress in the next three weeks or so.  I remember the play and it didn't look that bad. 

Walk off HBP, feels a little cheap (kinda like kissin ur sister), but none the less a win, I'll take it.
Jose Reyes was awesome again. That triple in the 9th was great (13th of the year), after he scored thaought that was the game. But K-Rod blew it in the bottom half.
Our pitchers also had alot of k's tonight as well. Dickey deserved a win with that performance 8IP, 3H, ER 1BB, 9K.
Overall, long game to watch, but I guess it was sorta worth it. Wish it was a walk off hit though. The celebration after the game didn't feel right to me.

Great win for the Mets tonight... 3-2 in extra innings.

R.A. Dickey - Quality start. Not just because he allowed only 1 run over 8 innings of work, but because he had the presence of mind to know the Mets had only 1 run on the board themselves up until that point, and he made sure the other team never got ahead.  The game was tied 1-1 for much of the game, and then eventually in the bottom of the 8th, Jose Reyes (you know that guy Sal can't stand) hit yet another triple, and scored the go ahead run for the Mets when Justin Turner hit a clutch RBI single the very next at-bat. 

But K-Rod blew his second consecutive save tonight in the 9th, allowing a double, a stole base, and a base hit and the A's to tie the game again.

The game remained tied all the way until the bottom of the 13th inning, when Jose Reyes was walked to load the bases with 2 outs. Justin Turner up and gets hit by the pitch and the Mets win it.  

If there's 2 guys on the Mets that often make good things happen, it's Jose Reyes and Justin Turner.  I said it earlier, this 1-2 combo of Reyes and Turner is gold. I don't believe it should just be temporary, I believe the top of the lineup should start with these 2 for the remainder of this year and next year as well. It's the rest of the lineup after these 2 that needs to be modified.


I gotta feel bad for R.A. Dickey after tonight's game, it was a hard fought effort and performance for him despite not getting the win thanks to K-Rod. R.A. still out-dueled a great pitcher tonight and fought off what can now be called a tough Oakland team under it's new respectable manager Bob Melvin.  



Reyes now leads the league in runs scored after tonight's game.  


Capuano up tomorrow, hopefully the Mets can take this series from the A's before they go on to face even tougher opponents next.

Although I fell asleep in the B-10 or T-11 I saw the HBP Walk off when I awoke in the post game.  I didn't celebrate, but that may have been more being groggy than the anticlimatic finish.

I have this great idea that I'm sure that Mets fan will endorse in huge numbers.  On Jose Bobblehead day, (if it isn't scheduled, get it done).  Fred and Jeff dedicate an area of Citifield to Jose with a ceremony at home plate.  As they speak, his teammates walk out carrying 3 street signs (orange & blue), the one labeled Fleet St. would go on the plate the second, an arrow would go on the inside of 1st pointing toward 2nd and the final arrow would be on the 3rd base side of second pointing to end of Fleet St. on the LF line.  Exiting the stadium all fans would receive a small 3x3 laminated map of the 270 ft. path called Fleet St with its two left hand turns.  Jose or the Mets logo on the back and a key loop completes the pkg. 

Perdictably, the overwhelmed Reyes calls his agent and tells him, "get me the best deal you can, but I am home."

Well, Capuano got the job done today.. 6 scoreless innings, a genuine quality start. Mets win, 4-1 the final.

Jose Reyes, 2-4, 2 RBI, a run.

Daniel Murphy 3-4, 1 RBI.

K-Rod managed to get a save.

Cross your fingers, Mike Pel-fwee's up tomorrow against the Rangers.

I'll take the win and it was also nice to see K-Rod not blow one for a change today.  Good win, tough road trip upcoming.  I am still completely bummed out by the Ike Davis report because something tells me that he probably still won't be able to run in 3 weeks, call it the Mets curse.

I am of the opinion that the fact that the team salvaged (maybe that is too strong a word) the series against the A's to have a 3-3 homestand is okay.  Oakland was playing better when they came in and while the Mets didn't do great against the Angels, overall it was not like they went 1-5 or 2-4.  I think beating the A's was solid, overall.

They now go on the road and they have been playing like a team, collectively.  As was just noted, we get to see Pelfrey up next.  Lets see what they can do.

Yogi - Love the concept about trying to get Reyes to stay with that area/ceremony.  Nice.

We all know Mike Pelfrey can Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde us at at time, but we also know that he has long streaks of both good and bad.  Some hopefully we're in a streak of good... 

The Nats are looking into hiring Davey Johnson as their new manager?  That team has already been improving and under Johnson they should get even better.

Tough loss yesterday in Texas.  On the positive side, Jason Bay had another solid game.  Looks like he is recovering somewhat.  We really need this given the length of his contract, not to mention for the obvious reason, performance of the team.

I heard that the Davey Johnson hiring is official.  If he was gonna be back, I would have preferred it not be in the Mets division.  The Nats have an improving core.  They are playing pretty well right now. 

NYFAN6682 - Thanks for finding a link to the Mets draft picks.  I looked at it today and see that they signed their supplemental 1st Rounder, the Oklahoma High School pitcher Fulmer.  One down, one to go.  Gotta get that first round outfielder signed. 

Tough beating yesterday, but only one game.  Bay did have another good game.  Now if only he can get some power going...

Well, one day after Pelfrey reminded us why he may not be on the team next year, today the Mets put a hurting on the defending A.L. champion Texas Rangers.  This had to be one of the best games I've seen from the Mets all year.  Jon Niese took care of the Rangers lineup, and the Mets offense scored 14 runs for him in the Mets' 14-5 victory.  

Lucas Duda, wow what a game.  4-5 with 3 doubles, 2 runs, 4 RBI's.  

Jose Reyes, another solid multi-hit game.  

Willie Harris 2-6 with 2 RBI's, currently has a better batting average than Jason Bay and David Wright.   Beltran, 3-5, 3 runs and 3 RBI's  

Thole and Tejada both had a multi-hit game as well.    

The Mets lineup went all out in their attack on Texas pitching.  Many Mets' hitters almost looked fearsome at the plate the way they were hitting so well today. Good stuff. I look forward to hopefully seeing a rebound from Dillon Gee tomorrow and to the Mets hopefully taking the weekend series in Arlington.

Well, Mets got the job done, took the series from the Rangers. It was not exactly a great outing for Dillon Gee today though, not horrible just not the best we've seen from him.  Many outs he got Texas hitters on were hard hit and fly balls to the warning track, in many ways luck was on his side.  But the Mets still held and took the game by a healthy enough margin. 

Jose Reyes, continues to shine. Today 4-5 and another triple, 3 runs scored, 1 RBI. 

Daniel Murphy heating up, going 3-4 adding 2 runs and an RBI. 

Paulino continues to be a solid offensive catcher having another multi-hit game.

Overall the Mets lineup lit up Texas pitching for the 2nd straight day to take 2 out of 3 games on the road. 

And... back to .500 are the Mets. Now comes a big test for them in Detroit and against the Yanks this weekend.  These next 6 games are big. 

Should we be a bit worried about Gee. Last game he gave up 6 walks and 4 runs I believe. Todays was also not that solid. Maybe he is a bit overworked or something?

We're still trying to see how he holds up over an extended period of time. He did get the W today despite not pitching at his best still only allowed 2 walks and 3 runs total over 6 innings.  I'm curious to see how he'll do against the Yankees this coming weekend.

I'm not worried about Dillon Gee, although ATW brought up a good point in watching his durability over the rest of the season.  Today, Gee overcame an early case of nervousness and gave us 6 effective innings vs. a potent Rangers line-up.  I was unaware, but they mentioned during the broadcast that Gee followed Texas growing up as a kid.  That'll do it to ya'. 

Jose Reyes had 4 hits and scored 3 runs.  We gotta re-sign this man!  Although most of us have been Mets-merized w/ his torrid offense lately (myself included), the one defensive play that stood out the most today was when Texas had the bases loaded w/ 2 outs in the 1st inning.   Reyes made an outstanding play on Teagarden's grounder to get the force out at 2nd.  May have seemed like "not much", but he helped Gee get out of a major jam and limit the damage so Gee could rebound in later innings. 

How about Endy Chavez's rbi double off of K-Rod in the 9th?  I still have a warm place in my Mets heart for Endy.  Did anyone else have 2006  flashbacks of our lil' sparkplug?
