The 'reasonable legislation' will fail to stop the violence--just like much of the other 'reasonable legislation' has failed to make the US a utopia.  Many want words on the pages of the statute books to reform human personal behavior--especially the horrid, violent person's behavior.  

Oh commie, too bad you don't stop and re-read what you write before you post it.  No one expects "reasonable legislation" to stop all the violence.  Just like the Civil Rights Act in the 60's didn't stop bigotry--hell even now there is alot of bigotry.  Yet, "reasonable legislation" can and will slow down the violence.  Just as the Civil Rights Act did in fact slow down the bigotry.  Perfect solution?  Of course not.  My guess is your fear of background checks would allow the world to know all the crackpots you have in your family and as such even you wouldn't be allowed to own/buy guns--that's not what this type of legislation is about.  If just one background check manages to prohibit one psycho from getting guns, then that is worth the legislation. 

You and everyone else in this country can/have/own all the munitions you want, but a background check won't prohibit you from owning all that.   

I doubt most of the gun-nuts and kooks on here could pass any background check.

What fact is that? You cannot even tell me what they support that I also support. All you can do is keep repeating yourself in the hopes that eventually you might be right, for a change. 

Let's talk about Obama's CPI proposal.  The GOP might agree to some grand bargain because of it.  Hey, take a few dollars from seniors and the GOP is happy.

For some reason, Obama has forgot how the GOP campaigns during elections.  Obama save money by cutting payments to insurers who provided Medicare Advantage.  GOP then did ads claiming that Obama cut Medicare benefits.

So now the GOP and Obama want Democrats to agree to a real cut to seniors' benefits.  Every Democratic politician who votes for this change will then have ads by the GOP in 2014 saying that he/she voted to cut benefits for seniors.

The truth is that there are several ways to help SS and Medicare without hurting the seniors who really need these benefits but the GOP will only accept something that will hurt the clients.  the GOP is not happy unless they can hurt people using social programs.  God forbid that would look at other solutions to cutting spending. 

Welfare - how about going after welfare fraud?  SS - how about raising the wage cap of $113,000 (why should someone making $113,000 pay into SS the same amount as someone making $1 million?) and/or means testing for benefits?  Same for Medicare - means testing.  Food stamps already has means testing but we could do more on fraud.

Anyways, the main point is that you support what they support, so by that logic , you support them.

You might want to swing by your local GNC and pick up some Ginseng or some Ginkgo Biloba then because your memory is faulty as  hell. That is not my position at all. Although I do support the 2nd Amendment I am all for strict regulation of gun ownership and have argued as such countless times.

What I am not for is the total banning and confiscation of guns from private citizens. If in your myopic mind that makes me complicit in child murder, then so be it, but that's just your sick and twisted opinion.
